One class per day, 50 minutes per class.
The secret of language subjects is to accumulate every day and improve steadily. For overseas students, the most difficult stage is the first semester. Himalaya's teaching philosophy has the following four points: (1) The process of children mastering a language is "acquisition" rather than "learning". Observing the process of speaking in infants and young children from 0 to 18 months, "listening" plays a pivotal role. Through "listening", children can input a certain amount of vocabulary and sentences, so as to achieve a leap in "speaking". Therefore, in our teaching, we do not force students to follow the reading for a while, and allow students to have a certain period of silence. (2) Apply the overall input of "speech flow and sound change". When we learn to sing a song, we all have experience. After listening to it a few times, we will sing it. There is no need to imitate it sentence by sentence. Language, like music, has changes in speed and priority, that is, "speech flow and sound change". In teaching, the sentences are taught to students like music, which can achieve multiplier effect with half the effort. (3) Linguistic expression, which follows the order from oral expression to written expression, among which reading takes the output of oral expression and the input of written expression. (4) Error correction is an important part of the language output process. Sometimes I practice a lot and write a lot, but the level does not improve. The reason is that the child has not been corrected in time. At this time, the more practice, the more difficult it is to correct the error.
(1) Correct and fluent oral expression. Elite classes can talk about a wide range of topics, use accurate words, and concisely express their meaning. (2) Be able to read books on Chinese literature, society, and natural sciences that are appropriate to the cognitive level of the age. Elite classes can read intermediate-level literature, newspapers, and magazines. (3) Recognize and master the basic strokes and radical structures of Chinese characters; have primary written expression skills. The elite class masters the writing of general narrative essays, descriptive essays, and commonly used applied essays.
The theories of "acquisition" and "speech flow and sound change" both show the importance of "listening" in language learning. Therefore, we follow the order of listening, speaking, reading, and writing in teaching, and let the students hear, understand, and familiarize themselves firstly, and then ask questions, repeat, and read through a variety of means such as teacher reading, explanation, and multimedia presentations. Relying on the content of the textbooks, using pictures, telling stories, playing activities, and other means, students can learn Chinese in a natural atmosphere. The order of language expression and the theory of error correction not only show the importance of "speaking" in the process of language output but also emphasize that timely error correction is a necessary means to improve language expression ability. Therefore, we follow the sequence of "speaking first, reading later, and writing later" in the teaching of the improvement stage. Use methods such as question-answering and retelling to replace boring "reading" with fluent "speaking". Reading reaches a certain level, and a natural transition to writing occurs. "Reading thousands of volumes, writing like a god", is the truth. At the same time, timely error correction runs through the daily teaching and correction of homework, giving students correct demonstration and guidance to avoid going in the wrong direction and taking detours. The Chinese course is not only the development of language ability but also the culture behind it. Our Chinese course content will cover idioms, history, geography, traditional culture, food, society, encyclopedia, and other AP Chinese exam required content. Reading is a powerful tool for improving language skills. The teacher will lead the children to analyze the stories and encourage them to write and reflect. The Himalayan Library has thousands of selected Chinese books suitable for students of different levels and will be continuously updated. Each book comes with a reading tab so that children can see the interesting understanding of other children.
The Ministry Compilation Textbook is a general textbook for Chinese primary school students, focusing on the mastery and improvement of basic knowledge, from recognition to writing, covering ancient poetry and prose, as well as a large number of books for extracurricular reading.
